The original for this map of Rome was drawn by Pirro Ligorio (1512-1583) in 1530. The Dutchman Paulus Merula (1558-1607) created a map in c1594 based on the above map but with no modern buildings, only existing Roman structures, and sites of ruins.
This version was engraved in 1820 for ‘Romae Antiquae Notitia Or Antiquities of Rome in Two Parts’ by Basil Kennett, published by Stirling & Slade, Edinburgh 1820.
