Description

Burns was born here on 25th January 1759. Sometime before his death in 1796, the cottage was sold to the Incorporation of Shoemakers of Ayr, one of whose members then turned it into an alehouse. This is one of the earliest published views of Burn’s birthplace. Drawn and engraved by J. Storer for ‘Views in North Britain, Illustrative of the works of Robert Burns’. Published by Vernor & Hood, London 1805. Paper size approx. 140 x 230 mm.
